2008 CAPE of DC Marathon Project --Off and running.

Hello fellow runners or runners to be. Happy New Year!

  • Did you have a New Year’s resolution to get more involved in your community?
  • To assist in improving the life of a child through mentoring?
  • To exercise with a strong support system and meet new people?
  • To have an opportunity to transform your life?

If you answered yes to any of the above,

The Marathon Project is calling YOU!

CAPE of Dutchess County is currently in the process of recruiting new and returning students, teachers, and adults within the community to participate in:

The Marathon Project - Empowering Youth Through Running.

What is the Marathon Project?

The Marathon Project, sponsored by the Council on Addiction Prevention and Education of Dutchess County, Inc., is an innovative distance running program that pairs adult mentors with at-risk youth in the Poughkeepsie and Beacon communities, as well as the DC Department of Probation, Northeast Community Center in Millerton and The Poughkeepsie Children’s Home.  This is an after-school training program that aims to reduce risk factors such as childhood obesity, school drop out, and substance abuse.  The Marathon Project provides opportunities for students to set and achieve goals, explore avenues for character development, improve health, and build positive student/adult relationships through mentoring.
