Beware of ICE at Norrie Point

Friday, January 4, 2013

We got this from Race Director Pete Colaizzo about the Recover from the Holidays Run this Saturday, January 5:

The weather for Saturday's Recover From the Holidays (FA) 50km at Norrie Point looks as good as can be expected for January: Dry and chilly, with highs in the 30s. However, parts of the 5km road course at Norrie are a bit slick and ice-covered. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. We do not anticipate the icy areas improving between now and Saturday. In particular, the area around the start/finish parking lot has some thick ice. The first hill on the course has only a small patch of "safe" dry pavement. Please be patient in the out-and-back as all runners will want to stay safe on the less-slick areas. Lastly, as you drive into the park, take notice of the slick spots, so you are aware of them. After you do a few loops, you'll know where they are. Please remember this is a state park with very limited staff; we are grateful for their allowing us to have this free event at their beautiful riverfront location.

Having said all that ... we look forward to having you come out and run a few laps (or more!) for a nice mid-winter long run. If you are planning on running the entire 10-lap course and would like to start earlier than 9 a.m., call Pete Colaizzo at 845 309 3640 or email me at runhed246@hotmail.com, or just check in upon arrival at Norrie. I'll be the guy near or inside an idling white Subaru Forester covered with stickers.
