BOSTON MARATHON TRAGEDY

Friday, April 19, 2013

I wanted to take a moment of your time today to thank everyone involved in The Mid Hudson Road Runners Club for being so supportive amidst the Boston Marathon tragedy. I have heard from many of you and in the hours following the event, many of you helped by tracking down our members, their family and friends who were there. Thank goodness everyone was reported to be safe.

We were able to communicate on our Facebook page (please feel free to join the Mid Hudson Road Runner Facebook Page and be able to share and communicate with fellow runners)

The Poughkeepsie Journal did a great job covering the tragedy and helped keep us informed as to the well being of our local runners. You can read the stories on poughkeepsiejournal.com. I also heard from WKIP radio and did an interview for them and YNN TV did a story on MHRRC member Dennis Michael Foster (who ran his fourth Boston Marathon) and his wife Sherry. The Reporter also showed some footage at our track training at Unionvale Middle School and the cards that some of our members signed and sent to the victims in hospitals in Boston.

In this difficult time, I just wanted to reach out to everyone to say we as a running club stand strong and stand united. We will keep running and promoting health and wellness in the Hudson Valley and beyond.

Thanks again for being part of our running community at Mid Hudson Road Runners Club. If you wish to receive our newsletter on a regular basis featuring articles, news and race information, please sign up on our website www.mhrrc.org. I look forward to seeing you at our races. Our next race is Miles of  Hope on Saturday, April 27th. Please check our race calendar for all our upcoming races.

Please join us at our next club meeting Thursday, May 2nd at Daddy O's. Fun run on the Dutchess Rail Trail starts at 6:00 pm. Meet back at Daddy O's at 7:00 pm for socializing. Club provides light snacks and drinks; you can order more on your own nickel if you want.

Daddy O's is the southern end of the rail trail, just off Route 82 on the north end of Hopewell Junction.

Wishing you the best in running,

Keith Axelrod,
President, Mid Hudson Road Runners Club
