A NEW RACE -- SHAWANGUNK VALLEY 5-MILER REPLACES NEWBURGH-BEACON BRIDGE RUN

Thursday, August 1, 2013

You may have noticed that the race calendar does not include the Newburgh–Beacon Bridge Run this year. That’s due to the fact that the Bridge Authority called us last fall after our race to say that the bridge would be undergoing extensive renovation and they wouldn’t allow us to book the race this year!! So as not to leave a hole in the fall schedule we came up with a replacement race that includes some of the Bridge Run features but a different venue. It will be the same weekend in October (October 13). We’ll still have the long-sleeve technical shirt as always, cider and fruit from Adams Fairacre Farms, chip timing/scoring, and of course a downhill finish!! New is Bobby’s Salsa will be providing salsa, registration at the Shawangunk Valley fire house, 2155 Bruynswick Road, Wallkill, NY, and no point-to-point route. The course: it’s a scenic 5-mile loop with some rolling hills (click on Race Courses to view the elevation map), after 3 miles or so it’s essentially downhill with the steepest descent just before the finish. There are views of orchards, vineyards, pastures, and the Shawangunk Ridge. Come join us for a new venue on one of favorite training routes. Sign up through the Shopping Cart before Oct. 6 to guarantee receiving the commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt.
