Inspiration on a Winter's Day
By Connie Seigh
I usually need a little motivation to get me writing and yesterday's Winter Run certainly did the trick!
After going through my brief hibernation mode (December and January), I was eager to get out and run with the nicest bunch of people in the Hudson Valley. It was so good to see so many smiling faces and friends I hadn't seen in a while (that's you, Sue Bonthron: good to see you running again). Another plus was the spring-like, short-wearing weather we lucked out with.
I'm sure Pat DeHaven was impressed to see the talented group of runners from New Paltz show up at his race. They really helped set a fast pace
What was equally impressive was the never defeated Erika Abraham, who defies any injury headed her way.
Another runner who caught my eye across the crowded awards ceremony room was Sarah Herman. I'm sure many of you read about her battle with cancer in Pete's column last November. Even though I didn't get a chance to speak to her, I saw she had a smile on her face (aah, the wonders of running, so good for the soul).
I know how we can get so caught up with the super fast runners in front. We marvel at their talent, determination and devotion to the sport. Then, you look at the runners like Erika and Sarah and feel so inspired to just go out there and live life to the fullest.
A special thanks to everyone who inspired me today, for tonight I will got to sleep with a smile on my face, running effortlessly in my dreams.
Even though Puxatawny Phil said, "Six more weeks of winter," I think my hibernation is over.
See ya at the races!
