Sad news. We've lost another one of our own

Sad news posted in the Poughkeepsie Journal obituaries. For those of you who remember Joe Panni, he has been a member of our club for many years. Here is a copy of is obituary: 

Joseph Panni (1928 - 2013)   |   Visit Guest Book  Joseph Andrew Panni  Hyde Park - Joseph Andrew Panni, 85, a longtime Hyde Park resident, died Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, in Poughkeepsie.  Born May 28, 1928 in Flushing, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Stefana Dulmovits Panni.   Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Rochester during the Korean War.  He worked for IBM Poughkeepsie as an Inspector Technician for 35 years, retiring in 1987.   Joe was a member of the Mid-Hudson Road Runner's Club, the IBM Quarter Century Club, and Roosevelt Fire Company and Rescue Squad, Engine #3. He also had volunteered in the emergency departments at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital.   On August 17, 1952 in Pawling, he married the former Louise Jochum. Mrs. Panni survives at home.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sharon Koczaja of Hyde Park; son, Robert E. Panni and wife, Anne, of New Fairfield, CT; grandchildren, Melissa M. Guisti and husband, Daniel, Alana L. Panni, and Laurel E. Panni; and his favorite cat, Spooky, who always had slept with him.   In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Jonathan Koczaja.   In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  Joe's family would like to thank the staff and doctors on the 3rd floor at Vassar Brother's Medical Center for their care and support, especially his 'best girlfriend' Emma.  A Funeral Mass for Joseph will be at the convenience of the family.  Joe's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Essie Dabrusin Cat Sanctuary, c/o Mid Hudson Animal Aid, 54 Simmons Ln., Beacon, NY 12508. www.midhudsonanimalaid.org.  Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.sweetsfuneralhome.com    Published in the Poughkeepsie Journal from Oct. 25 to Oct. 27, 2013 Remember Obituary Remember on Facebook Share with Others
