News about the Walkway Marathon!

Friday, March 20, 2015

Although most of the routes are still snow-covered, plans for the Walkway Marathon have been gaining momentum throughout the winter.

Registrations continue to come in at a steady rate; at last count, about 1,400 runners had signed up for one of the three races. Race registration will close when the total number of registrants for all three events reaches 2,000. Local runners who have been procrastinating about signing up should bear this in mind, along with the fact that the cost of registering for each event will increase by $10 on April 1 – that’s less than two weeks from today.

Registered runners – as well as their friends and family members – are strongly encouraged to help out on race day. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to work at water stops, hand out finisher’s medals,

organize the post-race food tables, and with dozens of other tasks. Be a part of one of the Hudson Valley’s biggest summer events by visiting www.walkwaymarathon.org/volunteer and signing up to help.

Big news regarding the Walkway Marathon Health and Wellness Expo: the National Running Center, a major source for running gear of all types -- often at discount prices -- will be one of the vendors at the expo, which is sponsored by Dutchess Tourism, Inc. Look for news of additional vendors and other expo participants in the coming weeks.

Local businesses are also being solicited to become Walkway Marathon community sponsors. For $1,000, your company can have its banner displayed at one of the course water stops; at the $500 level, a business can be included in the digital race packet – which will include a link to its website (or a coupon) -- that all registrants will receive. Visit www.walkwaymarathon.org/sponsor for additional information on becoming a community sponsor.
